TURN OFF THE TV
My mother used to say, "misery loves company". As you grow older you find out that is true. In the beginning years you spend your life accruing friends, relatives and acquaintances. You also have the opportunity to make choices as to what category of comfort with you they fit in. I have some friends closer than some relatives.
In our older years you lose friends, lose business acquaintances and lose relatives. So you get more companionship from the TV as you can turn it on and turn it off and when alone may be the only thing left to keep your mind from dissolving.
In my guidebook on survival in small business today, I have a twelve step program to turn your business around. The first and most crucial single step surprised most people. Turn off the TV, your negative friends, and anything else detracting you from your personal success. Focus on your clients and customers. Good business is like a love story. When do you tell a particular woman you love her? Before someone else does!
Misery has always loved company. We are in tough times, decisions are more important than ever and a clear head is essential. That’s a good start. Ditch the negatives. With so many out of work, the TV is the pacifier of misery, falsely bringing to the surface and amplifying the pain and as should be the anti-depressant for our society, instead it is a downer.
Especially if you are out of work, you turn to the TV. Bad news sells and if we don’t have bad news, some will make it up, make it loud and sell it, sell it, sell it. Hour after hour, 24/7. The best example is FOX cable TV. FOX news and other commentators of the Legion of Doom and Gloom like Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity, would make Herr Goebbels proud. they are my favorite people because they are part of the problem.
Their dramatic (makes Hollywood proud) reporting style is depressing because it’s all about something bad happening regardless of how good it is. Good doesn’t hold an audience. We are a nation based on good. Have we forgotten it ? Do we still applaud the winners, chastise and boo those who would bring us down, I wonder.
We love drama. So much we make heros out of incompetents. Ignore the fact, they lack of real experience, talent, a brain, common sense, and some just buy their “savior-ship” because it’s filled with fake exuberance and high drama. For potentially (in case of illness) the highest office in the land, the GOP chose a drama queen, pageant loser, intellectually challenged and fiducially impaled with lawsuits and accusations, former Governor of Alaska. Sarah Palin, now the darling of the Tea Party and mega- media - queen. We call it the Sarah Palin Brand.
She screwed up her state in almost every capacity she served. She blew Alaskans off and oh, quit. Who quits? Her shrill negative rhetoric, her barbs, smeared with curare, draw strong media attention. Only talking points and applause. Useless with every syllable missing any chance of a positive word is limited to catch phrases.
But negative sells and getting 100,000 dollars a speech from a bunch of “birthers, truthers, and religionists”, who pay to hear her vitriolic talking points, again and again certainly does nothing to solve our problems. These folks are living in the past. Her ideas comprised of “None so Far” will not solve the problems.
Sarah Palin made twelve million dollars telling you how bad you got it, laughing all the way to the bank with a book she never wrote. Are the people who support her that stupid? Not stupid, OK, some may be half a loaf short in the bread pudding, the majority are just vulnerably deficient, it’s just her ability to exploit their frustration.
She is where she belongs, on Jay Leno, and FOX, entertaining as usual by slamming others who are trying to fix things.
The destruction of the middle class, lack of jobs, a ruined economy, a totally unreal misguided dysfunctional Congress and two wars certainly marked the resume of the last administration and I do not blame the last President for all of it.
I add everyone who worked during that administration Democrat and the Republican Congress who had a hand in things, like the cookie jar and your back left pocket.
The noted physicist Albert Einstein made it clear in his definition of insanity. Do the same thing over and over again, the same way, and expect a different answer. Thats how our government is operating now.
Business as usual only the players are changing as fast as the Canadian hockey team switched lines during the Olympics. Congratulations, they deserved to win, and the US in second place was no defeat, they played their hearts out too.
We were promised change, we got it, Congress went from sitting on their left cheek to their right cheek.
This election period coming up is going to be so dirty, I hope people wear gloves when they vote.
