THE LEGAL BEAGLES

THE LEGAL BEAGLES
BEYOND THE BAR

Marc Kasowitz: Trump’s hotheaded longtime personal lawyer and Free Get Out Of Jail Card
Out of all the lawyers on the president’s team, Marc Kasowitz has worked for Trump for the past 15 years, representing him in several high-profile cases including the series of lawsuits against Trump University in 2016 which settled and known as a scam, and Trump’s 2006 defamation suit against biographer Timothy O’Brien for allegedly misrepresenting Trump’s net worth which was probably truth.

Given their long history, it’s no wonder Trump appointed Kasowitz to lead his team of lawyers. But last week Kasowitz was pulled from the job, and his role on the team going forward will be significantly reduced.

Some mentioned basically he is a big-mouthed self endearing TRUMP type.    Even though Kasowitz likes to brag that he’s been called the toughest lawyer on Wall Street, (Street translation = Lying Scumbag)  he has little experience dealing with Justice Department or congressional investigations and is known for being quite hot-tempered.

Earlier this month, he threatened a stranger in a string of profane emails that included a blunt warning to “watch your back, bitch.”  Many feel if he was crossing the street, they would have a tough time choosing the brakes or the gas pedal.  Trump loves him just like Hitler loved Bormann.

John Dowd: the team’s new leader
Is a  veteran Washington defense lawyer, is the team’s new leader following last week’s shake-up. He only joined the team in June and has represented many high-profile government officials, including Sen. John McCain during a 1990 investigation known as the Keating Five scandal, in which McCain was accused of improperly meeting with federal bank regulators on behalf of a campaign contributor. McCain was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

Dowd is also known for leading a Major League Baseball investigation into former Cincinnati Reds player and manager Pete Rose on gambling charges. Because of Dowd’s report, Rose was banned from the MLB for life.

A well-respected lawyer with a long history of dealing with the Justice Department, Dowd adds a much-needed boost to the team’s federal expertise.  Which is a good thought since T-Rump knows nothing about how the US works.

NOTE:   He also has a temper and could put T-Rumps tweet and emails to shame. In one case he forwarded the following.

"This is the worst piece of whoring journalism I have read in a long time. How long are you going to suck US Attorney Preet Bharara’s teat? All to hurt a decent, honest witness, whom assistant US attorney Reed Brodsky could not lay a glove on.  It did not work. The jury was not impressed by the worst cross examination ever delivered. So in the style of Preet, try to smear him by working the sycophants in the back of the Courtroom. He learned from Schumer in the Senate… Preet is scared shitless he is going to lose this case so he feeds his whores at the WSJ. What a disgrace for an otherwise great paper”.

— John Dowd, partner at Akin Gump and defense lawyer to Raj Rajaratnam, in an irate email to Wall Street Journal reporter Chad Bray.

Ty Cobb: the special counsel to the White House
Ty Cobb — who, yes, is a distant relative of the famous baseball player of the same name — is the newest member of Trump’s team. It was only announced earlier this month that he would join as special counsel to the White House. Now he’s reportedly overseeing the White House’s legal and media response to the Russia investigation.

A former federal prosecutor and partner at the multinational law firm Hogan Lovells, Cobb specialized in bribery and corruption law and congressional investigations. His addition to the team sends a clear signal of how seriously Trump is taking mounting allegations.

“He brings to the White House a lot of experience the president has not had,”  ( He’s recommended Cobb for the job, told USA Today.   The only experience the president has with balls are his personal balls and how tough he is, and how the women adore him.

Cobb, a prominent Washington white-collar lawyer who in the 1990s represented several Democrats under investigation during the Clinton era, was hired in part to help spearhead the internal Trump White House effort to respond to the expanding Russia investigations by Congress and special counsel Mueller.

It’s no easy job, especially when Cobb's main client is apt to fume on Twitter about the “witch hunt” that has touched his closest family members, as the probes move from an examination of Russian meddling in the 2016 election into whether the president obstructed justice by firing the FBI director.

“He knows how to handle a crisis situation,” said Robert Bennett, Cobb’s longtime law partner and a former attorney for President Bill Clinton. “He knows how to deal with the conflicting tensions of congressional and criminal investigations and the media. So the whole question is whether they will to listen to him, whether they’ll follow his advice.”

Jay Sekulow: the media guru and public face of the team
Jay Sekulow has become the face of Trump’s team after regularly appearing on Fox News, CNN, and other media outlets. When he does, he always defends Trump. In an interview with CNN earlier this month, for instance, Sekulow said the president “was not aware of a meeting” between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer.

Sekulow, the chief counsel at the American Center for Law and Justice, a conservative, Christian-based social organization, also adds a bit more experience to the mix. He’s argued 12 cases in front of the Supreme Court, including hearings on abortion rights and religious freedom. He also hosts his own radio talk show.

He is the real deal making millions off of the evangelicals and channeling that money to his charities which are mostly family members.  Over 230 million.

Michael Bowe: Kasowitz’s associate
Michael Bowe is one of Kasowitz’s partners and has worked with him for more than two decades. Like his boss, Bowe has specialized in commercial, corporate, and real estate litigation on Wall Street. He has created a name for himself by regularly appearing on cable news outlets. He frequently appears on CNBC, Fox Business News, and Bloomberg, according to his firm’s website which touts him.

The National Law Journal has named partner Michael J. Bowe a “Litigation Trailblazer” in recognition of his innovative approach to path-breaking litigation.  Among Mr. Bowe’s noteworthy cases are a $6 billion RICO action on behalf of Fairfax Financial Holdings, the largest Canadian insurance company, against short-selling hedge funds, broker-dealers and others who conspired to engineer a bear raid on Fairfax’s stock.  The filing of the action stopped the conspiracy in its tracks and led to a huge increase in Fairfax’s market capitalization.  Mr. Bowe also represents Resolute Forest Products, a global leader in the forest products industry, in a suit against Greenpeace and others asserting RICO and common law claims arising from Greenpeace’s unlawful, defamatory and harassing campaign against Resolute.

Most recently, Mr. Bowe obtained an unprecedented win for pro bono client Marine Corps Major Jason Brezler.  The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York granted summary judgment vacating a Navy Board of Inquiry recommendation to dismiss Major Brezler for sending confidential documents via his personal email to expose the sexual abuse of children by an Afghan police officer on a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.
